Two weeks ago Oliver went in for a routine dental cleaning, during this cleaning his Dr. found a mass on the back of his tongue. Obviously we had it sent in for testing.  We had 8 days to worry, overthink, predict and plan for the worst. This is Oliver’s second cancer scare, the first one came back benign.....this time we weren’t so lucky. Last Thursday we were grocery shopping and John got the call, Oliver has cancer.  Punched in the gut, we cried, planned what his final days will look like, committed to prioritize his comfort and quality of life for his remaining days. See, we convinced ourselves that luck wasn’t on our side and that given his age and wild medical history, he would certainly be riddled with cancer and we already decided that treatment would probably be in vain and compromise his quality of life. Fast forward 5 days to his vet oncology appointment. Sick to our stomachs we waited 6 hours to hear the final results and prognosis. The results...... Olivers cancer has not metastasized, the first vet was able to remove almost all of the cancer during his dental cleaning and a short series of treatments would allow him to be cancer free WITHOUT compromising his quality of life.  The treatment includes 4 sessions of ONCET immuno therapy with a booster every 6 months @$643 per session and 4 radiation sessions @$1500 per session. This is a hefty price tag and we are asking for your help. As I previously mentioned, we weren’t originally considering treatment because we thought he would be in worse shape than he actually is. Given he is so healthy we feel it would be cruel not to get these treatments for him.  As of today he has had 1 ONCET treatment and is scheduled to start radiation in 3 weeks.
