Mazel Day School Security Upgrade

REAL TIME UPDATE - Thank you for all those that already donated. In less than 12hrs we were able to raise over $9,000 for this important project. The cost of the project is $18,000 and our original goal was to crownfund for 50% of the cost. Given that we have received one large donation from a very generous donor, we decided to raise the crowdfunding goal to the full cost of the project. We thank all those that have already donated and look forward to additional support so that we can reach our goal.

Mazel Day School is a child-centered, value-oriented educational institution dedicated to academic excellence and Jewish heritage. Our motto is "Instilling a Love for Learning and the Joy of Judaism." We are located in Brooklyn, NY.
During the past few years, through hard work, we have experienced significant growth in the number of students that we serve. Mazel Day School has been recognized in the media by the Jewish Press, CNN, NY1, and The Jewish Week. In 2014, Mazel’s principal was awarded the leadership award for education by The Jewish Education Project.
A TIME FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION ON MATTERS OF SECURITY
Like many people in our community and around the world we have watched with increasing concern the growing number of violent incidents that are perpetrated by groups and individuals with violent ideologies, racist mindsets, or simply by people who use violence without any concern for the consequences. A few recent incidences hit very close to home. One in particular was the stabbing of a Jewish student inside Brooklyn’s Jewish center by an individual shouting anti-Semitic language. These incidents, together with events in Israel, Australia, France, and other places, forced us into immediate action.
Mazel staff has been in communication with the NYPD and security experts who are consulting the school on the necessary steps that need to be taken. Considering that safety is our number one priority, it is time that we install Emergency Lockdown locks in all Mazel classrooms as well as make necessary alterations to the entrance at the pre-school building. The purchase and installation of the locks will require a significant investment on the part of the school. Your contribution will be used to offset this cost and will insure a higher level of security for our precious children.
