We have always looked up to our big sister, Terri. Growing up in a large family (3 girls and 3 boys), all the girls born within 3 years of each other, more than sisters, we are best friends. We also share a dark sense of humor that's helped carry us through even the hardest moments in our lives. Today we are asking for your help to support our sister during this difficult time.
Terri is a sign language interpreter and was an amazing teacher and professor for 25 years before she became a self-employed freelance sign language interpreter. Our sister, Terri, is truly one of the toughest, most courageous, and beautiful human beings we know.
Twelve years ago, Terri was diagnosed with cervical cancer, which required a full hysterectomy. In the fall of 2020, I received a phone call at work that she had suffered a prolapse, was bleeding out, and that a metastatic cancerous tumor was responsible. After emergency surgery and a year of intensive chemotherapy, we received the good news: remission. She moved from Florida to New Jersey to be closer to family and to try to recover financially.
Two years ago, doctors found metastatic cancer once again. Terri endured a third battle with cancer and faced another year of chemotherapy and radiation. Becoming a three-time cancer survivor, a distinction no one ever wants, Terri once again beat the odds. When her scans showed remission, we vowed to start a journey toward health and fitness. Terri has since become a regular marathon walker, participating in and raising money for different charities. Her commitment to moving forward has been nothing short of inspiring, which is why her most recent diagnosis is so devastating.
Over the past few months, Terri has been experiencing focal tremors in her left hand, arm, and face. After visiting a neurologist and undergoing a recent MRI, doctors found a tumor on her brain and a large aneurysm, with an upcoming surgery to determine if the tumor is cancerous. As a sign language interpreter, Terri relies on her hands for her livelihood, and this diagnosis has deeply impacted her ability to work. She has spent the last 12 years fighting cancer and paying medical bills, with little relief in sight.
That's why we are reaching out to you. We are asking for help in raising money to help offset the upcoming surgeries first one being Monday 4/27 for the tumor, then another surgery for the aneurysm 1-6 months later as well as post-treatment costs. Terri has never been someone to put herself out there or ask for anything, but now we are asking on her behalf. Any support you can give will allow her to focus on healing and getting back to some sense of normalcy. Thank you for taking the time to read Terri's story and for considering a donation. Every bit of support makes a meaningful difference.
