In Memory of Nolan

Nolan was an amazing human. He was smart, funny, and above all kind. His love of space, and the mystery of the universe was truly awe inspiring. He was the type of person who would give a stranger the shirt off his back. If you asked him for a favor he would be there in a minute.
He loved nature, and camping, and being outdoors. He was always trying new things whether it was food, or adventure, or jumping out of a plane. He was there for it.
He was the smartest person I know, and he had the degree to prove it. He worked on things I could never hope to understand, but he was never too busy to fix the family computers for the 10,0000 x.
What people, most people, didn't know was that he was also struggling deeply with his mental health. Looking back, he may have been struggling his whole life - he just hid it really well.
The year that our father passed away Nolan was diagnosed as potentially schizophrenic. He was convinced that someone was out to get him. He was terrified of that happening. It was absolutely heartbreaking to watch.
In recent years we were not even sure where he was living, only that it was on the West Coast after he left NYC.
As so many have experienced mental health is still treated as a stigma in this country. Especially for someone as bright and ambitious as Nolan. That needs to change.
Because of the nature of his mental health, and death, there are so many expenses that no one could ever expect to have to shoulder. Especially for a child, especially for someone who was only 33. He had no will or records, and we do not know what bank he was with or even if he was still employed at all. There is no insurance that can be found right now, and getting to any records will take time.
My mother Julie retired just a month ago and is now solely handling the expenses of bringing Nolan home, his memorial, and all of the massive legal fees that are accumulating around finding his things, his accounts and everything else.
We have had so many people reach out asking how they can help, what they can do to help support us & after discussion this is what would most help right now.
Any amount donated will help.
Thanks to everyone who loved him as we did. Thank you for supporting our family in this time of unimaginable grief.
Memorial details will be updated online.
