Hey guys, my name is Hallie Williams and like many of you, I am a friend of the Kowalkowski’s.
As you many of you all know, our friends Kim and Gary Kowalkowski have been through a lot over the past four months. On April 16, 2015, they were told something that no parent should ever have to hear…. their beautiful little 10 year old girl Emerson (Emmy) was diagnosed with a brain tumor. On May 14th Emmy underwent a ten hour surgery to remove “a large” tumor, however due to the fact a small amount of the tumor was wrapped around the nerve that controlled her facial muscles, the decision was made not to remove all of it. Removing it would have resulted in paralysis of the left side of her face and the doctors were confident the blood supply to the tumor had been cut off.
Over the past three months Emmy has fought hard. Having to relearn many of her basic motor skills and attending hundreds of hours of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy she was able to regain most of her strength and made huge strides in getting closer to being the Emmy of old. Even though, she still had an uphill battle to climb, she was excited to rejoin her friends at school and begin to lead a close to normal life again.
Unfortunately to everyone involved, on August 20th Kim and Gary learned that small piece of the tumor they were forced to leave had begun to grow again. Soon Emmy will begin the process of going through regular radiation treatments to yet again begin the fight to get rid of this tumor.
As you can imagine, the cost associated with this can be astronomical. Between medical bills, surgeries, physical therapy and missed time from work, the costs continue to pile up. That’s why I am asking for your help to help in any way you can. I know with the number of friends and family Gary, Kim, Emmy, Logan and Lanny have, we can help the Kowalkowski’s get back to life as normal.
Thank you for your support and considerations.
