UPDATE FROM THE MAJOR FAMILY:
On behalf of myself and my family, thank you.
It is not easy accepting help, it's so much easier to be the helper, the do-er rather than the one receiving help.
Yet our amazing village persists, and we’ve received countless (incredibly generous) offers of help. We’re forever grateful for all of the love and support we have received.
The intensity and stamina of this disease has weighed heavily on our family over the past few years. Quality, accessible treatment for severe eating disorders is at this point in time, a privilege — and even with great insurance, costs pile up. Treatment centers are far and few between, scattered throughout the country and managed by only a handful of provider groups. The administrative burden is substantial and can inhibit timely care.
Many people are unaware of the ways eating disorders can strain your body and dramatically affect overall physical health. Long term, serious consequences exist within many body systems and can lead to irreversible damage, including to the heart and other organs. Treatment for eating disorders not only has to include mental health counseling/therapies, but also high levels of clinical care. It gets even trickier when there are comorbidities. This leads to large treatment teams, numerous providers, and often a lot of bouncing around between facilities and hospitals in order to get the care prioritized at that time. Often, and especially in our experience, the process is slow and then abrupt resulting in a patient having less than 24-48 hours to arrive at a center, (far) out of town. The recovery process, like so many other mental illnesses, is never linear- but a lack of consistency and stability between programs and care plans makes this disease especially challenging. EDs are cruel, and relapse is common.
While those who work to treat EDs do the best they can with what they have (and there are so many providers we will be eternally thankful for), there is a long way to go and a lot of work to be done. This results in a heavy burden on the patient and their family along the way, something our family has experienced over and over. We are in awe of all of the support we’ve received, and we’re so thankful to be able to have such amazing people in our lives— and to be able to provide some insight into the process for this vicious disease.
From the very bottom of our full, overflowing hearts, thank you. You can't imagine how deeply we appreciate your immense generosity and support. ❤️

As a long-time friend of Amy Major, I am starting a GoFundMe page to help with some of the family’s medical costs.
Some of you may know that Erin has been very sick, battling a severe eating disorder. Eating disorders are incredibly damaging, both physically and mentally, and can, in instances like Erin’s, require higher levels of care and treatment than local providers can offer. Erin’s treatment is currently taking place out-of-state.
This requires expensive last-minute air travel and/or hotel costs for both Erin and a parent/companion.
In addition, the Majors are responsible for all past and future expenses which are not covered by insurance.
Eating disorders are a serious illness that are difficult to understand and harder to treat. My hope is that this GoFundMe can help ease their financial obligations and, in-turn, help them focus on healing and recovery.
Thank you very much!
