This past December, our dad was diagnosed with Stage IV (distant) prostate cancer. Being first diagnosed with this late stage is grim, and as you can imagine, heart-wrengching for all of those who hold our dad dear.
While prostate cancer is normally treatable, his form is quite aggressive. When prostate cancer has progressed to a distant stage, there is no cure; current treatments only offer relief from symptoms and improve the quality of life. As unfavorabe as his prognonsis may be, we are currently exploring every possible medical avenue for his treatment. While dad was blessed with an infinite supply of hopeful positivity, such optimism doesn't pay for all treatment options.
While this sort of news is never easy, it comes just a few months after John and Anna's new addition, Annie, was born. As you can imagine, the pressure of a new baby paired with the stress of cancer has added signficant strain to the household.
Situations like these are truly humbling. These circumstances teach us the difference between sympathy and empathy. We would be enormously grateful for any support, monetary or otherwise, that could go toward our dad's treatment.
Much love and graditude,
Johnny, April, Kaitlin & Matt
