Hello - My name is Catie Smith and I've spent my adult life as a Recruiter for many household names from Toys R Us, The Vitamin Shoppe, HelloFresh, KPMG and more.
I was affected by the tech layoffs back in June and have applied and interviewed for hundreds if not thousands of roles ( will not give up hope!). Including local jobs from Customer Service, to restaurant help etc. But now with no car, it's making things even more difficult.
When I got laid off, my family and friends helped out as much as they could but unfortunately, the bills continue to pile up. I'm a single divorced woman so I am the only income in my household. My company did not give me any severance and my unemployment benefits have run out with no option to extend.
I have maxed out my credit cards, and savings account, got my car repossessed and now am on the brink of losing my apt with nowhere to go. I found out today 1/19 that I have to be out by 2/17 if the rent that is owed isn’t paid in full.
Also through the mix of this, I found out I need to have oral surgery that really shouldn't be put off but due to the lack of insurance and funds, unfortunately, it is taking a back seat which is nerve-racking in itself.
Despite endless hours looking for work, I am lucky enough to get involved with some local community events so I could at least positively give my time and continue to try to spread light and joy even though I'm struggling deeply.
This is by far the hardest thing I've ever had to write and to put myself out there like this but if you have ever been in this place you know how terrifying it can be.
Please consider donating anything extra you have to get me through this difficult time so then I can pay it forward to those in need as well.
