On Sunday, October 5th our sweet boy Weston tripped and fell while playing in the living room at home, fracturing his left femur. After rushing him to St. Francis Hospital ER for x-rays and finding out he had broken the bone, he was fitted with a full leg splint and transferred by ambulance to HCMC for surgery. Doctors there determined to fit him with a spica brace vs surgery. This brace is a new technology which was to keep him immobile while maintaining a 45-degree angle for his leg to heal properly over the next 4-6 weeks. Weston, Mommy & Daddy spent three nights in the hospital before bringing Weston home. He had to be placed in a special laying harness for the car ride and a wheelchair to move about. Moving him just the slightest caused him pain. It has been heartbreaking to witness.
The first thing our sweet boy asked when getting home is, "Where is baby?". He missed his new baby sister, Lainey ♡. She too was missing Weston, Mommy & Daddy. After a week of little to no sleep, a lot of pain meds and pillow propping, Weston returned to the doctor for x-rays to see how his leg was healing. Three doctors entered the room to break the bad news. Weston would need surgery that same day to place a plate and screws on his femur to keep the bone in line ... the uncomfortable spica brace was not working. The bones had shifted further apart. Our poor little guy cried and screamed, "home ... home ... home" over and over as each nurse or doctor entered the room. After the initial shock of this news ... anxiety ... and tears, Mommy, Daddy & Weston prepared for surgery and spent another night in the hospital.
Weston is back home again and still in the leg section of the spica brace while recovering from surgery. He has several weeks ahead of healing and disruption of his daily routine ... missing his friends and learning how to play toys differently due to his immobility. His world has been turned upside down. He will require physical therapy for walking after the surgery heals and will need another surgery in 4-6 months to remove the plate and screws so his bone can grow with him.
While Weston's healing journey has begun, so have the incoming medical bills, need for new equipment to accommodate basic daily needs like eating and sleeping and getting from place to place. As you know, Brooke is on maternity leave and income is already tight. We ask that you help us to wrap your arms around the Neil family and support them through this challenging time. Their energy and strength are needed for Weston & Lainey over the course of the next several months. Taking away their worry of medical expenses would be such a blessing.
♡Please pray for Weston and his family, send positive thoughts, and donate if you are able♡
From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! ♡
