Help Vega Family

My colleague and fellow teacher, Mr. Juan Vega, recently lost his wife (who was only 28 years old) on 1/1/16 after battling Adult-onset Still's disease and Macrophage Activation Syndrome. She suffered a cardiac arrest due to High blood pressure and high blood sugar levels. They have a vibrant and adorable 3 year old son. My colleagues and I wish to do something to help the Vega family in this time of mourning and sadness. We would like to raise $10,000 for them and I hope that you will help. The money raised is more than an expression of our love and support. We understand that the last thing this family needs to worry and stress about as they bury a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend is the expense of burial, time off from work, counseling, childcare, living expenses, and an extreme amount of medical bills accumulated from her illness.
Juan’s wife, Jessica, had been ill for the past 3 years and was diagnosed with Adult-onset Still's disease. Adult-onset Still's disease is a rare inflammatory disease that may affect many joints, internal organs, and other parts of the body. In the past year her conditioned worsened and she was diagnosed with Macrophage Activation Syndrome. Macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) is a life-threatening complication of rheumatic disease that, for unknown reasons, occurs much more frequently in individuals with systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SJIA) and in those with adult-onset Still disease. She spent the last 3 years in and out of the hospital and unable to work. Due to her unemployment, she lost her insurance coverage. Through the years of her illness she received various treatments such as; pills, daily injections, chemotherapy with Rituxan (a cancer drug that has a unique mode of action is showing promise in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis), and steroids that were very expensive. Throughout her multiple hospital visits, hospital stay, doctor visits, medicine, and treatments, the family has accrued an insurmountable amount of medical bills. Juan (on a teacher salary) was the sole provider for the family. Juan always took time off work to be by his wife’s side.
Mr. Vega, as his students call him, goes to work with the primary concern of providing his students with a quality education and doing all he can to ensure they succeed, while facing and dealing with such adversity. Last year, Mr. Vega’s class of students made the highest gains academically of all the students on his grade level.
Please help the Vega family. Any amount, big or small, would be greatly appreciated. All donations will go directly to the family.
