Dear friends and family,
For anyone who knows Corbin Gallmeier he does everything with passion, deliberation and he moves at one speed, which is full speed ahead! For those that do not know him, he is a devoted husband to Leslie, a loving father, son, brother and friend and he is an incredibly resilient man.
For the past 16 years, Corbin has faced a relentless battle against cancer, all while showing unwavering faith, determination, and courage throughout this unyielding fight. He has endured endless rounds of chemotherapy, radiation treatments, and reconstructive facial surgery multiple times. Throughout the years, his determination to be present for his family and friends, despite going through this, has been nothing short of extraordinary!
For a few years, he has had a nonhealing wound on his face that was treated as an infection. Despite multiple rounds of antibiotics and surgeries, it would not heal. Recently, their world was shaken again when they found out that his cancer returned. After several biopsies, it was determined that the radiation that put him into remission years ago, was now the cause of his newly diagnosed rare and aggressive cancer.
A few weeks ago, he had his first round of chemotherapy at IU and it seemed to go well initially, but the road to recovery took a drastic turn. A few days later, he was back in the hospital with a blood clot in his lung. Despite successful treatment, he returned to the hospital shortly thereafter with even more complications. The discovery of a blood clot in his arm led to sepsis and Corbin had to undergo multiple surgeries to combat the infection. In the end, an agonizing decision had to be made to amputate his dominant arm in a desperate bid to save his life.
As Corbin continues his battle in the ICU, Leslie remains steadfast by his bedside. Both have been unable to work for several weeks now as they navigate through this unimaginable ordeal. Corbin’s journey ahead, at minimum, entails continued ICU stay, transfer to a medical floor and likely outpatient rehabilitation before he can come home. The timeline for resuming chemotherapy or getting a prosthetic arm remains uncertain. He did inform us that he wanted a light saber prosthesis!!
Corbin is not only a fighter but an avid hunter and fisherman, and the loss of his dominant arm has not only changed how he will enjoy this cherished pastime, but also significantly affects how he will be able to work in the near foreseeable future. This brutal reality is causing uncertainty for this family as they are facing mounting medical bills.
As Corbin’s friends and extended family, we are coming together to ask for your support during this trying time. Your donations will help alleviate the financial burden of medical bills; allowing Corbin and Leslie to focus on regaining his health and be able to face challenges ahead with hope and strength. Any donations will make a tangible difference in his life. If you are not at a place where you can donate, we do ask for continued prayers.
