Friends and Family,
As you may or may not know our Charlie has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
After extensive research and discussions, his medical team has concluded that his best outcome will be with a treatment called High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU). With HIFU, Charlie will have better quality of life preservation, low risk of side effects, and less recovery time that will keep him from doing the things he loves, such as bowling and dancing every week with his friends. This treatment has existed for 20 years and has been fully cleared by the FDA since 2015. However, despite it having been cleared, the health insurance industry has yet to assign it a Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code. A CPT code is simply a means of identifying a procedure that Charlie’s insurance company would use to file the claim. Without this code it will not be covered, and Charlie will have to make the decision of either having to pay for this recommended treatment out of pocket or settle for an alternative with a much less bright prognosis. Additionally, having to go through with radiation or chemotherapy would put Charlie at an increased risk during the current pandemic.
As there are so many people that love and care about Charlie, we wanted to start this Go-Fund-Me to ensure he can receive what his medical team recommend. We understand that due to the current global situation many people will not be able to help, but we hope those that are able to, will give what ever they feel comfortable with.
Thank you all.
