JuVaughn's Recovery

With a heavy heart, we are seeking support for our 16-year-old Nephew, JuVaughn Turner. Son of Margarita Davison, an annual employee at the Selby Jazz Fest, JuVaughn was the victim of a senseless shooting at Jimmy Lee Recreation Center in Saint Paul, MN.

Like most in the community, JuVaughn considered Jimmy Lee a safe place to hang out after school. On January 18th, he went there to play basketball with his friends. While at the recreation center, JuVaughn and his friends were approached by a 26-year-old, on-duty employee, who escalated, harassed, and eventually shot JuVaughn in the head. Our hearts are broken as JuVaughn’s life and future are forever changed by such an evil act.

Thankfully, he has survived the gunshot wound to his head and has begun what will be a long recovery process. God willing, we pray he still has a full life ahead of him, and our family is hopeful we won’t have to endure this tragedy alone. JuVaughn and our family have never needed the village more than we do right now.

In addition to your continued prayers, we’re seeking donations to assist Margarita and her immediate family as they navigate medical costs and other expenses associated with JuVaughn’s recovery. We can’t change what happened, but we are hoping to provide the family with as much support as possible as he recovers and lives his life to the fullest.

Mack Phillips, JuVaughn's brother, will be the beneficiary of this fundraiser and will make sure that the funds go directly to JuVaughn's recovery.
