We are soliciting prayers, support, and assistance from our community, family, and friends, to help with the lodging, travel, meals, expenses, and unmet medical deductibles and copays before, during, and after transplantation.
Justin is a son, brother, friend, community/health advocate, youth basketball coach, CHD Warrior, and last but not least Founder of the Justin J. Davis Heart Foundation. He has been an athlete all his life. He was never consistently sick until he was exposed to the flu virus.
Justin's heart journey started in April 2017, at 24 years of age, Justin was diagnosed with Left Ventricle Non-Compaction Cardiomyopathy (LVNC), a rare congenital heart defect (CHD). He had been an athlete all his life, playing football and basketball. He had never been sick until after being exposed to a flu virus. He suddenly began experiencing nausea and shortness of breath.
Left ventricular noncompaction cardiomyopathy or LVNC is a heart (cardiac) muscle disorder that occurs when the lower left chamber of the heart (left ventricle), which helps the heart pump blood, does not develop correctly. Instead of the smooth and firm muscle, the left ventricle's cardiac muscle is thick and appears spongy.
On July 24, 2017, Justin received an ICD and pacemaker. At the time, he was living in North Carolina and was being treated at Duke University Hospital in North Carolina. As his condition progressed, Justin moved back home to be near his parents. Due to his established and exceptional care with one of the top-ranked medical teams in the world, he continued his care there.
Today, at the age of 31, Justin’s condition has declined and he is now hospitalized indefinitely until he receives a new heart.
On April 12, 2024, Justin J. Davis was admitted to Duke University Hospital for testing and was officially listed on the Heart Transplant list on Thursday, April 18th. He will be hospitalized indefinitely until a heart becomes available.
While over the years, the family has managed to maintain the cost, their resources are dwindling. We are reaching out to the community seeking assistance to help defray the cost of lodging, travel, meals, and unmet medical deductibles and copays.
