Justin Crumpler's Trauma Accident & Recovery
Donation protected
This is Jourdan and I'm fundraising for my brother Justin. On Tuesday, October 11th, he was in a horrific freak accident on a job site. An industrial lull forklift telehandler (loaded with 5 tons of concrete) ran over his leg. He was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial in Miami where he remains. I am currently by his side as he gets his 2nd blood transfusion. He has trauma compartment syndrome and he's mentally and physically preparing for his long road to recovery. On October 15th, he gets his 3rd surgery. The incredible trauma team is doing everything they can to save his leg, though he's open to new wolverine bones. (To his utter disappointment, they cannot keep his leg tats intact.) Justin is a tradesman and a day laborer who won't be able to work right now. This is why I am fundraising on his behalf - to help give him some breathing room on rent/bills as he navigates what's ahead. He has two sons and one is a baby. I am eternally grateful to the Miami rescue team and the job site workers who rushed to help - especially that angel (a practical stranger) who held his hand despite the gruesome scene. As for his trauma care team - utterly amazing. These people are heroes - they are working on a kid who got run over by a forklift. You'd expect exceptional health care, and he's getting that; they also just scored him some proper Cuban coffee because they overheard he loves it. That empathetic stuff makes a real difference.
On a much lighter note, my brother has maintained a sense of humor (gets that from our dad). He literally has a tattoo on his upper thigh that says "Made U Look". That's been a real hit with the medical team, everyone finds it apropos and hysterical. He's also enjoying wearing a hair net over floor-length dreads.
