Help Jane Coates Fight for Justice for her daughter Lucy Harrison #Justice4Luce

On 10 January 2025, 23-year-old British fashion buyer Lucy Harrison was shot and killed while visiting her father at his home in Prosper, Texas.

Lucy was a much loved daughter to Jane, girlfriend, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, family member and friend. She had travelled from the UK to spend time with her father. She never came home.

A UK inquest later concluded that Lucy’s death amounted to unlawful killing, with the coroner reaching a conclusion of gross negligence manslaughter, having heard all the available evidence. In Texas, however, a Collin County grand jury subsequently declined to bring charges.

Jane and Lucy’s loved ones and friends have never accepted that the unanswered questions surrounding her death have been properly resolved. All attempts to engage with the Texas authorities to date to ask them to reinvestigate the case have fallen on deaf ears. It is clear that the original police investigation was inadequate in many respects. Jane will not give up until justice is done and that is now requiring a monumental campaign for Lucy’s basic human rights. Her father is innocent until proven otherwise but Lucy is entitled to a proper investigation into her homicide.

This campaign will require travel to and from Texas to continue asking these important questions and to seek answers for Lucy and her family. We will also be engaging with the American people who like us will no doubt be appalled at the denial of justice in this case.

Why we are fundraising

Jane is determined to do everything she reasonably can for Lucy. Her life mattered. That means travelling to Texas, meeting with those involved, speaking to journalists and experts, pursuing every appropriate avenue for information and accountability, and making sure Lucy’s story is not forgotten.

This is not something Jane ever imagined she would have to do.

The immediate costs of travelling from the UK to Texas are substantial. We are therefore asking people who care about Lucy and her family to help us meet the costs of this work.

Money raised will primarily be used for:

• Flights to and from the USA

• Accommodation in the Dallas area

• Transport between Dallas, Prosper and other relevant locations

• Essential travel and campaign expenses

• Media and communications costs directly connected with the campaign

We will keep the use of the funds as transparent as possible and provide updates as the campaign progresses.

We are not asking people to take sides. We are asking for answers.

And where legitimate questions remain, as they do, they deserve to be properly heard and investigated.

We will continue to approach the authorities, experts and media respectfully and persistently, and we will pursue every appropriate avenue available to the family.
