Bring Kai Home

My name is Nathaniel Clemetson, and I am raising funds to help bring my wife, Dixuan “Kai” Li, home.

Kai entered the United States legally on a student visa. We were legally married on February 16, 2026, and have an active marriage-based immigration case pending.

On May 20, 2026, everything changed.

As we were leaving our apartment in Arlington, Texas, ICE agents detained Kai and took her to Prairieland Detention Center. She has remained there ever since.

We are now fighting an uphill legal battle to keep our family together.

Despite entering the United States legally, despite being married to a U.S. citizen, despite having extensive support from our church and community, Kai was denied bond and placed on an accelerated removal track. This means there is a real risk she could be removed from the United States before our immigration case has the opportunity to be fully considered and barred from reentry for many years.

The financial burden has become overwhelming.

Immigration attorneys, court filings, document preparation, travel, $20 a day on phone credits to call Kai at the detention center, and more has been costing us thousands of dollars. Every step of the process seems to come with another obstacle that must be overcome.

Beyond the legal battle, there are serious humanitarian concerns.

Kai is the daughter of a Christian minister involved in underground church ministry in China. Throughout her childhood she was targeted because of her family’s faith. She was bullied, physically assaulted, isolated, and publicly humiliated because she was known as the daughter of a Christian leader. In one particularly traumatic incident, she was dragged by her hair down a flight of stairs by other students at the direction of her home room teacher.

Today, multiple pastors, church leaders, and human-rights advocates have warned our family that returning to China could place Kai at significant risk because of her family’s religious background and history.

The past several weeks have been some of the most difficult of our lives.

We have spent countless hours speaking with attorneys, gathering evidence, contacting elected officials, reaching out to advocacy organizations, and fighting to make sure Kai receives a fair opportunity to remain with her family while her legal options are reviewed.

We are asking for help.

Every donation will go toward legal expenses, immigration filings, advocacy efforts, commissary, communications, other costs related to the case, and supporting Kai while we continue this fight.
