Omar Dominguez Gavilan, known to many as “The Almighty Bluenose,” was a loving brother, son, uncle, and friend. Born in Minnesota on December 11th, Omar was only 28 years old when his life was tragically cut short on January 5th in Lawrence, Kansas. He was shot by a security guard while traveling to Mexico to visit our grandmother. Omar was a caring soul who always put others before himself, and he faced the challenges of schizophrenia with incredible strength and wisdom. Through his music as a rapper, Omar shared his emotions and life experiences, hoping to help others understand what he was going through.
Omar’s passing is a tragedy that has left our family heartbroken. He was deeply loved by his mother Lucy, father Eliseo, youngest brother Antonio, oldest sister Alondra, and especially his niece Ivana Luna Gavilan, whom he protected and loved as his own daughter. Omar’s story is not just about loss, but about the urgent need to raise awareness for those struggling with mental health. We want to honor his memory by sharing his music and starting a program to help others like him. We also need support to cover the costs of bringing Omar home from Kansas, funeral expenses, and legal fees to seek justice for the injustice he suffered.
Omar was strong and intelligent, and despite his mental health challenges, he was wise beyond his years. If the Kansas Highway Patrol and city hall employees had not failed him, he would still be with us today. Omar deserved to make it to Mexico and see his grandmother. We ask for your help and support to honor his memory, seek justice, and bring peace to our family. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference. Thank you for helping us keep Omar’s legacy alive and for standing with us during this difficult time.
