Nabil Khan was only 45 years old, yet in those years he left an imprint on countless hearts. He was known for his quiet kindness, his generosity, and the sincere way he always showed up and cared for others. A devoted son, a loving brother, and a constant source of strength for his family, Nabil lived with integrity and a deep sense of compassion. He had a rare ability to make people feel truly seen and valued. Children were especially drawn to him—his warmth, gentle spirit, and sense of humor brought them joy wherever he went. He was known to surprise the kids in the community with fun decorated cakes; my 9 year old son still remembers a dinosaur cake "Nabil Bhai" made for him for his 6th birthday. To know Nabil was to feel welcomed, uplifted, and remembered. Our hearts are shattered by his tragic and sudden loss.

Nabil was found deceased in his home under circumstances in which police suspect foul play. This devastating loss comes after his family has already endured unimaginable grief with the passing of their father, their youngest brother, and their mother in recent years. Now his three siblings that survive him, are faced with the pain of saying goodbye to yet another beloved member of their family. The weight of this loss is almost too much to bear.

In the midst of their grief, the family is also facing the financial burden of funeral expenses and the legal costs required to pursue justice for Nabil. My family has been trapped in a nightmare that feels like it has no end. In 2013, we lost our father, Mushtaq Khan. In 2020, my younger brother Abdul-Qayyum succumbed to mental illness. Last year, our mother Arif Khan passed away, leaving us in deep grief and significant debt as we struggled to manage her estate from abroad.

Now, the unthinkable has happened. Our brother Nabil was recently found dead in New Mexico under suspicious circumstances.

Because my sister and I both live outside the U.S., we are facing a mountain of logistics while drowning in grief. I have been named the executor for both my mother’s and my brother’s estates, but the weight is too much for one person to carry, especially from another country.

Why we need your help:

We are seeking $70,000 to cover the overwhelming costs of finalizing two estates, investigating my brother's death, and preventing further financial ruin. Your donations will go directly toward:

    •    Professional Help: Hiring a professional fiduciary/executor in New Mexico to manage the legal complexities of three properties and two open probates that I simply do not have the capacity to handle alone.

    •    Investigative & Legal Fees: Ensuring we get answers regarding the suspicious circumstances of my brother’s passing and handling the international legal requirements of his estate.

    •    Property & Asset Management: Hiring professionals to inventory our family homes once the crime scene is released, organizing estate sales for two of the properties, and securing climate-controlled storage for the items we cannot yet bear to part with.
