Most recent update

Hello Family, Friends and Free Spirits,
I have asked Justice to update me on his life and education while enjoying his 3rd year abroad in the U.K. He recently turned 21, time goes by so fast.
Below you can read all about his joy of travelling and furthering his Education. But first I would like to show you something I wrote a while ago as a thank you to his many kind and caring Teachers over the years.

TEACHER
You are there for me
When I don't want you
You encourage me
When I have no hope
You smile when I am angry
And tell me it will pass
You see only the Positive
When the Negative consumes me
You pat my back and tell me you are Proud
You tell me
I can be ANYTHING I choose to be

You, I will remember 20 years later, with joy in my heart, and gratefullness that you were always there.
YOU...were my TEACHER... and now I am too...

Thank you to all Teachers and Caregivers. Our children need you...Always. Even if they do not realize it. You give them Hope, Strength, Pride, Courage and an endless love of learning.
Please.... never give up on them.
They love you and so do we..

“Education is a companion which no misfortune can depress, no crime can destroy, no enemy can alienate, no despotism can enslave” -Joseph Addison

From a young age, I have been very passionate about my education and experiencing life through travel. My family comes from very different corners of the world and that has encouraged me to experience their lifestyles and embrace other cultures. Few in my family have attended university and, since childhood, they have set education very high in my values. In elementary school, I remember sitting in the schoolyard with my friends spending recess looking at the sky. We would point at planes flying by and wish we were on them, no matter where they were going. There is something captivating about travelling to different parts of the world, having unique experiences that cannot be found anywhere else or simply be taught, and being inspired to play a role in shaping the future of the world around me. The reason I am on exchange is to diversify my education, open my eyes to different traditions, customs, and values, and equip myself with the knowledge to tackle accomplishments such as ending world hunger, attaining gender equality, or achieving sustainable development, all things that I am passionate about. The same goes for why I am working for Lonely Planet—a company that promotes diversity and travel, and aims to share the stories of people from all over the world.
I believe there is no better opportunity to grow as a person than being engaged in new and different cultures and experiences. I feel incredibly blessed to have been granted a position with a company as reputable as Lonely Planet. It has been a dream of mine for longer than I can remember. Throughout high school, I always imagined studying in the U.K., and here I am at Durham University, an incredible institution with incredible resources, and a highly regarded academic reputation. I have confidence that challenging myself in new environments and living in a different cultural context will provide me with a well-rounded education, worthwhile experiences, and an enriched perspective of this world and humanity.

Furthermore, I believe that many of the worlds problems stem from people's lack of knowledge of foreign cultures and traditions. Globalization has happened fast and, in many cases, societies have not had time to adapt to this change. As a result, ignorance has lead to conflict and untold suffering around the world. I believe that the solution will come when people can move beyond the tribalism that has defined human history to a real international community where we all are endowed with real empathy for other peoples around the world. One of the best ways to foster this change is to live immersed in other cultures to gain real and lasting insights into other people's experiences. I am an incredibly motivated, organized, enthusiastic, and innovative individual who is deeply immersed in art, culture, and community. I want to be an agent of change and, with the opportunity, I will continue to be exceptional exchange student for Durham and will excel in my internship with Lonely Planet.

Campaign Story:

Back in 2015...

My name is Maria and my oldest son, Justice , is an incredible human being. He just turned 19 and  is nearly finished his 1st year of studies at Queen's University! This is just one of the many reasons that I am overwhelmingly Proud of him.
All he has ever wanted is to make a difference in this world, and he knows that a University Education is a priority. His grades are tremendous , and his ability to create artistically and intellectually are unending.
Unfortunately, the funds to continue the year and register for next year are not available to us at this time.

Justice has a brillant way of expressing himself and I don't want to see his potential stunted in any way. He has had many struggles in his young life, and I am so impressed with what he has overcome. My son, Justice King is a gift to this world and I want everything for him, that I never had. He is the first child to go to University in many generations....please help me keep him there.A Very Hopeful Mom,
Maria
