Of the nearly 46,000 citizens currently incarcerated in our state, about 92% will remain here in Arizona upon release. Providing them with meaningful work and a living wage will help ensure their success and help keep our communities safe. That's what Justice Java will do.
The United States incarcerates more of its citizens per capita than any other country in the world, and Arizona has the fourth largest prison population in our country. Nearly all those we incarcerate will eventually be released back into our communities. They will face stigma and employment discrimination that will make success nearly impossible and will create obstacles to positive reintegration.
That’s why we provide a positive and safe space to work that promotes community accountability through inclusion. We connect our formerly incarcerated employees with support and advocacy while providing a living wage so that they can establish a successful life in our communities. By providing people who have been incarcerated a chance to be better than they were before and to contribute to society, we believe they can be successful.
Our vision at Justice Java is to provide more than a stable job for those reentering society. We believe positive social interactions with the community and in the workplace will lead to a statistically significant reduction in recidivism and keep our communities safe through inclusion.
We start with fresh ground, light roast, Columbian beans, add a subtle blend of old-world spices, and slowly cold brew to eliminate bitterness and extract all the robust flavor. Our coffee is light in color, rich in taste, with all the kick you need to get you through the day. We recommend that you taste it before you add your sweeteners and creamers, because the cold brewing process creates smoother flavor.
Our StingersPne dry ingredients with water that’s been boiled in a cup using an immersion heater called a “stinger.” Now everyone is calling it sous vide cuisine. Here’s our take on prisongenuity meets high culinary art. As a tribute to all those currently incarcerated, we call our sous vide omelets “Stingers.”
