My name is Brenda Foreman, and I am a mother seeking support as I pursue justice, healing, and safety for my family.

One year ago, on Christmas Day 2024, my daughter, her friend, and I were physically attacked. We spent that Christmas Day in the emergency room, and I was left with a permanent scar on my face. What should have been a time of peace and celebration became a moment that changed our lives forever.

In the immediate aftermath, we endured physical injuries, emergency medical care, and hours of police statements. In the months that followed, we entered a prolonged legal process marked by repeated delays, silence, and emotional and financial strain.

As the case now moves forward, we are required to return in person to St. Kitts for trial, at our own expense, despite earlier assurances that this would not be necessary. Legal representation, flights, accommodation, and related court expenses have made the pursuit of justice overwhelming.

This GoFundMe campaign is being launched to help cover the essential costs required to proceed, including:
Legal fees and court-related expenses
Travel for required court appearances
Associated logistical and recovery costs directly related to the case

Pursuing accountability should not depend on one’s financial capacity. Justice should not be out of reach because it is inconvenient or costly.

Why this matters beyond one case
This experience has revealed a painful reality: across parts of the Caribbean and Africa, women and girls who experience abuse often face severe gaps in support. Access to legal advocacy, psychological care, safety planning, and long-term recovery resources is limited or nonexistent for many. Too often, survivors are left navigating harm alone, encouraged to remain silent due to fear, financial barriers, or lack of institutional protection.

This case, my family’s case, has become a clear example of why broader survivor support is urgently needed.

With community support, a portion of the funds raised will be reserved to explore and begin establishing a survivor-support fund or foundation dedicated to assisting abused women and girls. This initiative is currently in its early stages and is not yet a registered nonprofit or charity. Funds designated for this purpose will be stewarded responsibly and used for planning, consultation, and early assistance, with transparency provided to supporters as structures are formalized.

The long-term vision of this initiative includes support for:
Legal assistance and advocacy
Emergency safety and relocation planning
Trauma-informed psychological therapy
Education, scholarships, and job-training pathways

This campaign is about accountability, but it is also about restoration. It is about ensuring that one family’s pursuit of justice can help illuminate the need for stronger systems of protection, care, and dignity for others.

What happens next
Funds raised will support the immediate legal and travel requirements necessary to proceed with the case. As this process unfolds, careful planning will also begin toward building longer-term survivor support grounded in lived experience, transparency, and care.

If you are able to contribute, share this campaign, or stand in solidarity, your support will help ensure that justice is pursued and that pathways of healing and opportunity can be built, not only for my family, but for women and girls who deserve to be seen, protected, and supported.
