JUSTICE FOR ZOLA

On May 31, 2023 at approximately 5: 48 a.m. multiple calls came in to Monticello NY Police Department reporting a dog crying in distress. An officer was dispatched immediately and as the subject came into view from the officer’s police car, the officer witnessed a man slamming a dog into the pavement and stomping her head into the ground with his feet.

In a split second, Officer Buckner activated his siren to divert the subject from furthering his brutal attack on the dog. The perpetrator was arrested at the scene and the dog was taken to the police department with multiple lacerations to the face, abrasions and swelling. The dog was transported to Quality Pet Care in Monticello, New York where an official from Catskill Animal Rescue, Inc. assumed responsibility for the dog and it’s care. Dr. Scott Quick, a veterinarian experienced in assessing and documenting animal cruelty, headed an extensive exam of “Zola”, a 2 year old Brown Pit Bull.

Zola, in shock, sustained multiple injuries including 2 deep lacerations to her head, a broken cheek bone, several wounds to her body and abrasions to her legs, 2 broken ribs, liver values 24 times the normal level and low red blood cell count from bleeding.

Catskill Animal Rescue, Inc. welcomes any and all donations to help offset the expenses involved to provide Zola with continuing vet care and rehabilitation. We will providing any and all assistance to the District Attorney’s office in the prosecution of the attacker and remain committed to fiercely defend voiceless animal victims like our beautiful warrior ZOLA.
