Support for Victim of Danforth Attack

Dear community members,

We are turning to you for support, on behalf of the Danforth knife attack victim, Habibur Rahman.

This violent attack took place on Monday June 10th 2024, near Danforth Ave, and Thyra Ave, in Toronto, Canada. While out shopping, Habibur’s two elder brothers, were harassed and bullied by the perpetrator and his accomplices.

Habibur intervened to de-escalate the situation however the perpetrator responded by attacking Habibur and his brother Abdul Hafiz with a knife.

Habibur suffered major injuries and underwent emergency surgery to treat the stab wounds in his stomach. He was on a ventilator and regained consciousness after two days. He remains in ICU as we anxiously await to hear further updates.

Habibur’s brother Abdul Hafiz was also hospitalized with stab wounds to his arm, which required stitches. Abdul Hafiz has since been released and recovering at home.

The family and their relatives are traumatized and grieve stricken by this heinous and meaningless attack. The perpetrator and his accomplices targeted the brothers knowing well that as newcomers, they are vulnerable and defenseless.

Habibur has recently obtained his G1, and was in preparation for his G2 driving test. He likes to cook and read in his spare time. Abdul Hafiz enjoys making music, and has a hobby in carpentry. He recently built a stunning night table. They are caring, respectful and loved by many. They have come to Canada with many dreams and aspirations to be fulfilled. And most importantly they have a right to safety.

These brothers have suffered not only physically but their mental health and livelihood has also been impacted.

We are reaching out to our community, friends, and compassionate hearts to join hands in supporting Habibur and his brothers during this challenging time. The loss of income due to the attack, ongoing treatments, physio/rehab, and the long road to recovery are daunting.
