Hello, my name is Liliana Cardenas Villa. My father, Tarquino Froilan Cardenas, was detained by ICE agents who were camping outside the court today, Thursday, June 4th, 2026, at around 11:30 am. My dad was simply walking down the street because he needed to visit his immigration lawyer. We told him to come with us because we were fully aware of where these evil people were. His last words to me were, “Está bien, mija. Todo va estar bien. No te preocupes,” with his beautiful smile. So we believed him and let him go. As we were planning to cross the street, all I saw to my left was a car turning its lights on, and six different people grabbed him and detained him. 6 PEOPLE VS 1 OLD MAN! My dad is the best person to come to for literally anything. He had his struggles, he had his life, and his problems. But he never stopped working, never stopped giving up. He raised all four of his kids by himself at once. He continued to keep pushing forward when everyone was against him. He is the best father and my best friend. He didn’t deserve this. No one deserves this. I always thought this wouldn’t happen to my family because my father always believed everything would work out because it has for the past 30 years. But here I am writing this for my father. My sister, Bella Cardenas, lives in the same household as my father with three of her kids. As well as my sister, Bermaris Cardenas. My brother, Christian Cardenas, is trying his best as well. Papi, you are the light of our lives, the beauty that God speaks about, and the strongest spirit. We as a family will do anything it takes for you to come back to us. Papi, te amo mucho.

Mi papá simplemente caminaba por la calle porque necesitaba visitar a su abogado de inmigración. Le dijimos que viniera con nosotros porque sabíamos perfectamente dónde estaba esa gente malvada. Sus últimas palabras para mí fueron: "Está bien, mija. Todo va a estar bien. No te preocupes", acompañadas de su hermosa sonrisa. Así que le creímos y dejamos que siguiera. Mientras nos disponíamos a cruzar la calle, lo único que vi a mi izquierda fue un coche encendiendo las luces; seis personas lo agarraron y lo detuvieron. ¡Seis personas contra un anciano! Mi papá es la mejor persona a la que acudir para literalmente cualquier cosa. Tuvo sus dificultades, su propia vida y sus problemas, pero nunca dejó de trabajar ni se rindió jamás. Crió a sus cuatro hijos él solo. Siguió adelante incluso cuando todo estaba en su contra. Es el mejor padre y mi mejor amigo. No se merecía esto. Nadie se merece esto. Siempre pensé que esto no le pasaría a mi familia, porque mi padre siempre creyó que todo saldría bien, tal como había sucedido durante los últimos 30 años.
