Justice for Sofia: Honoring Her Life

We are reaching out during the most difficult time of our life. Writing this feels impossible, as we have been walking through the unimaginable. Sofia is our world, funny, kind, and full of dreams. We miss her laughter every single day.

Sofia was experiencing a mental health crisis, and we did everything we could to get her help. We reached out to the proper systems, believing she would be protected and supported. Instead, we felt unheard and left to navigate an overwhelming situation on our own. Shortly after, she became separated from us and was missing for over five months. Those months were filled with fear, searching, and countless unanswered calls for help.

We ultimately received a call from a hospital hundreds of miles from home. Sofia was in grave condition and our joy turned to heartbreak as we reunited. We had to make the most painful decision of our lives and say goodbye. She was more than her struggles. She was loving, strong-willed, deeply connected to her family, and proud of her Italian roots. She deserved safety, compassion, and care.

We are raising funds to:

• Honor her wish to be laid to rest in Italy with family

• Cover travel and burial/memorial expenses

• Help offset the financial strain from the months spent searching for her

• Support our efforts to seek clarity and accountability surrounding what happened

We have so many questions and not enough answers. While we cannot change what has happened, we can make sure her life is honored and her story is not forgotten.
