Justice for Shaniqua: Support Her Healing & Peace
Donation protected
Shaniqua (Niqua) Choice is an award winning Massachusetts educator, community advocate, organizer, friend, daughter, mother and wife to be.
On Wednesday July 16th, 2025, Niqua was assaulted by Everett Massachusetts Police Officers in front of her young children during a routine traffic stop. From the start, Niqua advocated for her needs and safety, requesting the presence of a female police officer and a supervisor to be present on site. She also asked for her fiancee and father of her children to come pick up her babies in the backseat before the stop continued any further. This request was unreasonably and repeatedly denied by the officer. Somehow, instead of a woman and supervisor reporting to the scene, 7 white male officers responded to calls for back up. Shaniqua ended up assaulted, on the ground, and manhandled by police in front of her children and several onlookers on the street and in traffic.
This incident led to Niqua being placed in a psychiatric hold, with cuts, bruises and aberrations on her body, only 2 weeks before her planned nuptials. This incident has left her feeling traumatized, unsafe, profiled, and we cannot imagine it would be any less on her young children.
At this time Niqua is asking for public support of this story, and monetary support as much as you are able for lawyer, medical and therapeutic bills, rental assistance and other stabilizing cost for her, her fiancee and their children.
Niqua remains steadfast in her commitment for JUSTICE, INTEGRITY AND EQUITABLE TREATMENT FOR ALL. We hope you can help defend her in this time when she needs community most.
