Justice for Shabnam Chauhan

Tax deductible
Shabnam Chauhan was a valued member of Dharamsala Animal Rescue and the community.  Everyone who knew her, not just noticed her physical beauty, but the beauty that radiated from inside her.

Just one year ago, her mom (Veena), family and friends were celebrating her wedding. It was a love marriage.

Just 7 months after Shabnam was wed, she was found dead. Her husband had always been verbally abusive, but it increased as time went on. It eventually turned to physically abuse.

A complaint was filed with the Women's Police Station in Dharamsala after Shabnam showed up for work one day with bruises on her face and 5 large lumps on the back of her head.  That day, she also met with a lawyer to discuss divorce.

The Women's Police Station encouraged Shabnam to compromise with her husband instead of pressing charges. We still to this day, do not know why they did this, but unfortunately, every women who goes their for support gets sent home to the dangerous place they are seeking help from.

In the case of Shabnam , 3 weeks later, she was found dead.

A police investigation is going on, but as her husband's sister is a police women, we do not believe that the case is being given proper attention.

A private lawyer as been hired to fight for justice for our sweet Shabnam.  If you can support her mom (also an employee of Dharamsala Animal Rescue) in helping to cover the costs of the lawyer. We will be forever grateful.
