Falsely accused of a murder he didn’t commit in 1968. Samson Dixon was sentenced to a maximum sentence of life in prison. Against all odds, he managed to serve a reduced sentence. Happy just to be out, attempted to appeal the felony from his record to no avail. He has been living with this on his record to this day of 52 years and counting. This story has been passed down both in the blood of his children to endure the systematic social injustice that has plagued the story of many within the black community.
Samson passed down this story to my father, who kept it for safe keeping. I always knew about the story as a child, it wasn’t until I was 28 that I fully understood the magnitude of the rich history that lay before me. A history not of my own, but HIS STORY. A story wrapped in the civil rights movement, one of basic human rights to bring hope to those who were imprison, exiled, to live in this world but not participate in its freedom. This is the story of Samson Dixon.
I am his grandson and I want to bring light to this injustice by raising funds to create a documentary that has been waiting 50+ years to see the light of day. Supporting this cause will help change the narrative of Black History, to add an unlike hero that brought humanity to those who lose hope, to shed light on systemic racism, to educate future generations. That no matter what, to always seek truth no matter how hard the struggle because the truth shall set you free.
