Hello everyone, my name is Justice, as some of you know, I like to keep my life private. But a very serious issue has arose & my family is undergoing a traumatic experience at our apartment complex (Riverstone Apartment Homes) HSL Properties - located in Tucson AZ.

When we first moved in back in 2019, it was a quiet & what seemed to be well-kept apartment complex. Beautiful scenery, mountain views, just an overall beautiful neighborhood. As time passed we’ve encountered plumbing & leakage issues, also in 2020 a pipe was backed up & we ended up with other tenants fecal matter on our patio where our children played; Then more reoccurring leakage from our AC unit, bathroom & children’s bedroom. We’ve had our ceiling in the bathroom form a bubble which came from our neighbors leaking tub & it took maintenance over a month to “patch up”. Under the bubble formed mold which we contacted management about & was exposed to mold for about a week (longer because it was under the bubble). Maintenance here never fully finish a job. For a very long time we did not know our rights as tenants leasing an apartment up until our three young children John (age 5), Jasper (age 2) & Joel (age 1) has been experiencing cold-like, flu-like symptoms reoccurring for the past year. My husband & I have also experienced respiratory issues from exposure as well such as coughing, wheezing, eye irritation, fevers, headaches & sneezing, shortness of breath, sinus infections, skin rashes. I even contacted our neighbors upstairs to ask if maintenance had been there to fix a pipe they claimed had leaked, which they didn’t & our neighbors have been experiencing similar symptoms.

After expressing our concerns to management, serving them a 10 day notice, asking to break our lease after discovering mold within the walls of our sons room they still are not allowing us to break our lease & leave HSL properties. They did not offer to place us in any temporary housing until we mentioned having to get the law involved. They also allowed maintenance to work on this issue while my entire family was here exposing us even more.

They are not willing to compensate us for the damages. Lost of personal belongings.

They still want us to pay full rent even though were not able to properly utilize our entire apartment for weeks & part of it is inhabitable.

They were notified that our sons have been sleeping in our living room due to the negligence & lack of compassion from this company. They are also well aware that young children have been very sick.

We have to dispose of their contaminated mattresses, our couch, our mattress & bed frame (which is made with fabric), books, toys, fabric dressers, sadly things that hold sentimental value. I have also invested so much money into holistic/natural remedies & herbs for our sons while being completely oblivious to what the main cause was.

Once again, not only did we discover mold but we’ve have had reoccurring plumbing issues, water leakages from our AC, maintenance repairs not being completed for a month, exposure to mold after removal of bubbling within our shower where we bathe our children, vents pouring water over our toilet not only once but twice & water was left on our bathroom floor for days after we requested for a team to come clean the mess we did not make. We have pictures, videos, messages, & documentation of maintenance requests not being fulfilled & legitimate dates.

The root of the mold found in our sons room from from a leaking pipe in the ground. Which also caused the wood to rot & more mold to be discovered within the wall! Mold spores have been accumulating all throughout the apartment, the carpet, the air, the vents, etc.

We’ve been living here in inhabitable conditions, not aware of our rights as tenants here.

Unfortunately we had to accept another unit (UNDER PROTEST) so we can keep our sons out of a toxic environment.

Our sons have been sick every few weeks missing out on major parts of their childhood including activities, Awana Club, play dates, not being able to FULLY enjoy their own birthdays. These are BABIES. They are innocent & deserve much more than what they claim to “offer” us. This is time that we can not get back with them. So much time being sick or under the weather. As a mother I’m infuriated but motivated to sue for the damages, emotional distress, illnesses. We’ve done all that we can in our power such as appointments to the pediatrician & also contacting the health department, code enforcement, an attorney, a private inspector, KGUN9 News, ACSU, etc. the list goes on..

I made this GoFundMe to help assist us with the loss of furniture, books, moving costs & even hopefully enough to assist us to break our lease & move into a more habitable house or home. Anything is appreciated. God has been keeping us & guiding us through this process. He has the final say & vengeance is The Lord’s. This is truly a test of our faith as a family. We have been in deep prayer & also this has been a lesson for us in so many ways. But I seek justice for those who are at a loss with HSL properties. Praying for those who are going through anything similar. This is most definitely something I would’ve never thought my family would experience. But God has a plan, He will provide & we will be blessed some way some how.
