The family members of Freddie Canady Jr (aka Pete Jr) are asking for your support to help get him out of prison. He was convicted in 2001 and is currently serving a 60-year sentence for attempted felony murder in the Florida Department of Corrections, Sumter Correctional Institution in Bushnell, Florida. We believe the punishment was extremely severe for the type of crime committed and are seeking a resentencing hearing. As of this date, he has served 26 years.
At the time of the incident, Pete Jr was unaware that the two cohorts with him had privately conspired to rob a store with a weapon. When Pete Jr entered the store, unbeknownst to him, another individual with a mask over his face followed with a gun and shot and injured the store owner. The trial for each co-defendant was conducted separately. The first co-defendant pleaded and received 7 years for testifying against Pete Jr. The second co-defendant, who actually shot the store owner, was found “not guilty” because he wore a mask and the store owner could not identify him.
We have retained the law firm of Chase Law Florida, P.A., in St. Petersburg, FL, and they are “extremely confident” of getting a resentencing hearing. We are humbly requesting your prayers and support in raising $15,000.00 to pay for all expenditures associated with Pete Jr’s case.
