Justice for Our Schools! Justice for Shadia!

I was falsely accused of “changing 200 grades for 32 students,” within seconds of each other.

Do that math! Impossible!

My name is Shadia Alvarez, up until a year ago I was an administrator in the City School District of New Rochelle. I was targeted and terminated in January 2019.

It was purposeful, tactical and strategic!

Principals and the Assistant Principal are the highest grading authority in a public school. Without their consent, signature and certification a grade is not entered into a transcript- an official school record- and a student does not graduate.

I was blamed and held responsible for something I had no access to.  Yet the public narrative promoted by the men in power, and sanctioned by the media made it seem like I did.  All along, they knew, they were the ones with the access and the ability to change grades.

The City School District of New Rochelle must acknowledge this and right this wrong!

As a probationary administrator, I was relentless, an advocate and above all passionate on behalf of my students and staff. As a life-time educator I earned exemplary evaluations and had a proven track record of success.

This is unacceptable!

Probationary employees, particularly women of Color are blamed for all the wrong- doing, and face harsher penalties in the work-force. Men are protected and promoted; despite evidence of continuous and glaring failure.

We cannot normalize injustice; what happened to me was a full-fledged conspiracy to set up and frame a passionate and committed educator. It was a dishonest framework to target, defame and make me the sacrificial lamb for the purpose of protecting the male supervisors, and the District's reputation.

Today, I ask for your support!

I spent a lot of time feeling confused, judged, embarrassed. Once I began to meet others with similar experiences, I began to see the pattern and practice of targeting strong leaders of color, particularly women.

I want to expose and interrupt the cycle that says it's okay to launch investigations against educators without respecting due process and an individual’s constitutional rights.

With your help, I want to:

* create a website with resources for educators so they know how to fight back against retaliation, discrimination and actions such as what I and others have experienced.

*to develop an organizing campaign for students and parents so they know how to advocate, organize and prevent the hijacking of their schools by unscrupulous agents.

I need you to have my back and join me in this fight! With your help, I believe we can make a difference in public education!
