Justice for Norman Spence: Your Help Needed

My brother, Norman Spence, is a very kind and industrious human being whose laughter, charisma, and fun-loving personality have been his means of survival. Norman came to this country as a farm worker in 1991 and settled in the Ft. Lauderdale area, where he was loved by people in all the different communities he worked as a handyman and a “jack of all trades.” Norman’s life changed drastically in January of 2019 when he lost his wife; they had been in a relationship for over 20 years.

Despite his loss, Norman continued to work at his trade. In early 2023, he was given a contract by a Florida businessman to do apartment repairs in Detroit, Michigan. This saw him leaving Florida, where he had established a community of supportive people. Of course, Norman did excellent work in the community for many other business owners who described him as a “good man.” While working in Michigan, he developed a relationship with a woman. Unfortunately, he did not take the time to know or understand this woman. Norman had no clue that he was in a relationship with a woman who would destroy him. His relationship with her overwhelmed him; She has been emotionally and mentally abusive to Norman. As his sister, I listened to him recount her treatment of him and warned him to walk away from her and the relationship. She got wind of this and told him she would ensure that she got him deported.

This woman took over his bank accounts, his immigration account, destroyed his vehicle, and made a false report to the Border Patrol, who picked him up during his lunchbreak. He was arrested on a federal charge, which would make him deportable if the court finds him guilty..

Since his arrest, this abusive woman has taken over all his possessions, including his most valuable tools, which he uses for work.

Now my brother is facing federal charges, and we are trying to understand what is happening. I have identified an attorney who can advocate and bring justice for him. My brother is a simple man; he has been abused and taken advantage of by a woman who has terrorized and harassed him since she discovered him in Michigan. I need your help to get my brother legal help. However, the cost to hire a federal attorney is a minimum of $20,000.

My family and I have been doing all we can to support Norman, but we cannot afford to cover his legal fees. We need your help. I am asking for donations from family, friends, and well-wishers to help my brother overcome this unfortunate situation. This amount seems like a lot, but as Miss Lou said, “one-one cocoa full basket.” In other words, any contribution will make an impact!
