Justice for Nathi: Rebuilding What Was Promised.

My name is Andrew Nash, and I'm based in Atlanta, GA. I'm raising funds to help my dear friend Nathi, a talented filmmaker from Durban, South Africa, rebuild his life after an unimaginable tragedy.
Nathi recently lost his entire family in a devastating mudslide — a disaster made worse by years of government negligence. I’ve had the honor of working alongside him on film projects abroad, and I’ve witnessed his dedication, creativity, and spirit firsthand.
Now, he’s left to start from nothing. Please take a moment to hear his story, and if you’re able, help us give Nathi the fresh start he so deeply deserves.
"My name is Nkosinathi Mthokozisi Majola.
On April 12th, 2022, my immediate family members (my mother, father, and younger brother) passed away during the Durban floods. I lost my entire home and studio due to the damage, which left me homeless. The cause of the disaster was heavy rain and a huge mudslide that crashed on top of us.
My mother, Duduzile Daphney Majola, was born on March 21, 1962. Passed 2022.
My father, Bongani Abel Majola, was born on October 19, 1960. Passed 2022.
My younger brother, Andile Musawenkosi Majola, was born in June 2006. Passed 2022.
During the floods, everything I owned was destroyed, and the whole house was reduced to rubble after the disaster.
Before and currently, I am a freelance videographer and sound engineer. Money was lost in equipment during the floods and I had to start all over. Not only that, but memories like family photos were destroyed—identification documents, certificates, achievements—it was like everything we worked for as a family was erased, as if it didn't matter. If I was to write a full list, it could go on and on.
After the disaster, famous politicians came to pay me a visit. I would like to leave them anonymous for my safety, but they promised to rebuild my home and refurnish it. They said they would replace my lost equipment and provide temporary shelter while rebuilding my family home. I was promised money and clothing.
These promises turned out to be false.
To this day, I have not received what they promised. They even failed to clean the rubble off my land. Bear in mind, I was 21 years old at the time of the disaster. They didn’t care. I asked friends to transport me to these meetings, but the officials would only lie to my face.
I did receive assistance for the funeral, which the local municipality offered. That helped, along with some food parcels—but only for the first month.
What will help me in this situation is first of all, getting funding to rebuild my family home.
I work a hybrid job, so rebuilding my studio would be amazing. All I pray for are the right resources to get back on my feet and give others opportunities. I would also like to do things that I couldn’t focus on while trying to survive this situation—like studying to get my driver’s license, or a drone operator license. I want to bring these skills to my area to help grow youth interest in production.
Personal message:
I would like to thank all of you for receiving my story with such warm hearts. I met Andrew through the work I do—because we both work in video production—and he is now opening this GoFundMe from the USA, which I wasn’t able to do from South Africa. That, for me, was God’s sign to come forward and tell you this story, which is so close to my heart. Passion brought us together, and that is the message I always preach, even when I'm at my lowest.
Currently:
I live with my girlfriend at her home. It has been a struggle to move out permanently. I am always in and out, trying to find stability.
Address of previous home:
27 Ntabende Road, Nazareth, Pinetown"

I will be raising these funds here in the United States and will be transferring it via wire transfer to his Capitec South African Bank. If you would like to speak to Nathi personally and hear his story, please send him a direct message on his Instagram, @Umthinay.
My hope is that on my next visit to South Africa, I’ll see him thriving—pursuing his goals freely, no longer burdened by the weight of survival or the pain of navigating life without his family.
