- My name is Dave. I'm homeless.
- I found my dog tied to a bike rack in the sideways rain one morning. Needless to say, I rescued him that day. Where we were located, he would have been put down if animal control had shown up. I found my best friend that day. That was 3 years ago.
- The day after my birthday this year, the police shot my dog. I was not there; I was getting breakfast for him that morning at the local grocery store. When I returned, they had shot my leashed dog. The first thing they did was check me for weapons. Then they told me that they were looking for somebody else and came in contact with my dog, who was guarding our stuff from strangers. And so they shot him. They didn't tase him, no warning shots, 5 within about 2 inches in diameter. They said he was off his leash; however, one of the exits is through the end of his collar, right where the clip would be. Disgusting! Not to mention that the police who shot him were not there. The crazy thing is, his leash was at least 15 ft from any public place where someone would be walking. All of my stuff was in the bushes. And then they went through my tent to find my ID, which was underneath all of my stuff. So they rummaged and helped themselves to the contents of my tent that was zipped up.
- Needless to say, I have found a lawyer that will do my case pro bono. However, the police department wants $265 for the records and filing. So my out-of-pocket expense is strictly the filing and paperwork fees. This lawyer that I'm working with is really helping me out.
