At the age of twenty-four, newly engaged and beginning Law School, Morgan Patten was beginning to live her best life. On November 8, 2019, she travelled from her home in Edgartown, MA, to Jacksonville, NC, to spend a holiday weekend with her fiancé, who was training with the United States Marine Corps. After checking into her hotel, Morgan walked across the parking lot to an Applebees Restaurant for a salad and a beer. One more sleep was all that separated her from the man that she was deeply in love with. Three hours later, Morgan was killed in an extremely violent single vehicle crash, thirteen miles away from Applebees, on a desolate dead end road. Two young intoxicated Marines were in the vehicle when it crashed. Both survived and neither has spoken about the events leading up to the crash. No legitimate explanation has been provided for the presence of a firearm in the crashed vehicle, or for Morgan's tab remaining unpaid, among many other mysteries. The Onslow County, NC Sheriff's Office, NC State Highway Patrol and the United States Marine Corps have all dismissed the incident as "an unfortunate DWI fatality", without an investigation. Morgan's parents have been searching for answers for nearly six years with the help of attorneys, private investigators, forensic and DNA experts and nonstop research. The out of pocket expenses for this has totaled over $135,000 to date, and though many answers have been found, the puzzle still has missing pieces, and the Pattens will not stop their search.
