My name is Leonard Pellman. I'm merely a concerned citizen of San Antonio, Texas, who is unwilling to stand by and watch the life of a local woman ruined by corrupt politicians. The name you must remember — the name this fundraiser concerns — is Nneka Cleaver, known to most San Antonians as Miss Neka.
From the mid-'90s until 2023, Miss Neka was one of the best-known and best-loved celebrities in San Antonio as a #1 radio DJ, MC, and hostess of the world's largest Martin Luther King Jr. memorial parade, community activist, founder and hostess of Black Business Week San Antonio, founder of Tha1 Radio, and leader of an annual Christmas gift drive benefiting needy children. She appeared frequently on local TV and radio stations promoting local businesses and community events.
All that changed when she ran for City Council and discovered corruption firsthand in local San Antonio elections. When she began to speak out about it, the corrupt politicians circled the wagons and set out to destroy her — both personally and her public image. They filed falsified tax liens against her, made false claims of business impropriety, created a social media broadcast to defame her, and even held a public "town hall" meeting to discredit her.
After she won three court cases, proving that the tax liens had been falsified, she filed a defamation lawsuit against the politicians and city and county officials who had destroyed her life and livelihood. Tragically, now unemployable due to her falsely damaged reputation, she could not afford to pay her attorney's fees, so her attorney withdrew from the case.
Miss Neka now needs funds to hire a new attorney to pursue her lawsuit against the city and county.
