Help Julius Keep His Home & Stability After an Unjust Encounter with the Justice System
Goal: $2,400
On Sunday, my brother Julius Irving was arrested for driving without a license after being stopped for not wearing a seatbelt. He learned for the first time that his license was suspended during the arrest. Despite being released on his own recognizance by a judge—thanks to the support of his employer and community—his probation officer violated him because of unpaid probation fees. She has issued a warrant for Julius’s arrest and, she is recommending 60 days in jail, followed by reinstated probation. Julius is surrendering himself today, Thursday, February 27, 2025.
Julius is an activist, humanitarian, and dedicated community worker. He has been doing phenomenal work in Gainesville, FL, serving as a community engagement coordinator at Community Spring and working in environmental services at Grace Marketplace, a shelter for people experiencing homelessness. He was on his way to work, in uniform, when he was arrested.
This situation is unjust. Julius has never violated probation before. He is being punished not for a new crime, but for being unable to afford his probation fees—a reality that criminalizes poverty. While both of his jobs are willing to rehire him upon release, he faces losing everything during the 60 days jail—his housing, his stability, and his future—if we don’t step in to help.
We are raising $2,400 to cover:
- Probation fees: $641
- Two months' rent (to keep his home while incarcerated): $1,400
- Utilities: $180
- GoFundMe processing fees (~10%)
Without this support, Julius will be released into homelessness, making it nearly impossible to regain his stability. We refuse to let that happen.
If you believe in justice, second chances, and community support, please contribute what you can. Every dollar helps. If you can’t donate, please share—it makes a difference.
Thank you for showing up for Julius the way he has always shown up for others.
