There are moments in life when someone is not a criminal — they are simply desperate.

I was recently arrested and charged with a felony after taking paper plates, paper towels, and food from my church kitchen. My family and I have had a church kitchen key for decades. I was not stealing electronics. I was not breaking into homes. I was trying to survive. My family was in desperate need. At the time, I was facing eviction. We were struggling with hunger. I believed the church — a place meant to reflect compassion, mercy, and grace — would understand my hardship. Instead, I was handcuffed, fingerprinted, and jailed for 14 hours on a felony charge.

No prior criminal record. No violence. Just desperation. The damage remains:

Emotional trauma

Public embarrassment

Threat of homelessness

Loss of stability

Legal expenses

Difficulty securing work

Being arrested changes a person’s life overnight — even if the case doesn’t move forward.

This fundraiser is not about revenge.

It’s about restoration.

It’s about helping someone who fell on hard times get back on his feet with dignity.
