Dear Friends and Family,
We need your help. We would be very grateful for any
donation for our long time friend and coworker, Jesus
Chavez, who was detained by Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE). Your generosity will help with legal fees
and to support his children. His beloved mother, brothers
and a large extended family also need our help. Jesus has
lived his whole life in Tucson and most of his family lives
here. He is an exceptional human being and the hardest
worker we know. Jesus is a devoted father and is someone
we are proud to call our friend.
Several months ago while returning from a job site Jesus
was detained during a routine traffic stop. Suddenly the
immigration debate in our country became all too real. For
several days we couldn’t find Jesus because he was not
allowed any phone calls. We were told that this is done
intentionally to confuse and disorient people. We have gone
to several court dates for Jesus and seen first hand the way
our government treats people and it is cruel and inhumane.
Seeing the room filled with people, thinking of the backlog of
cases in the court system and realizing that Jesus will have
to wait months to even get his day in court is disheartening,
to say the least.
Jesus is currently waiting for a trial date and is still
incarcerated. We have retained a team of great lawyers to
get his permanent residency restored. Everyone involved
has been working diligently to free Jesus and get him back
to the family and friends he dearly loves.
We also are committed to genuine immigration reform,
which is desperately needed to change how cases like this
are handled. We appreciate the time you have taken to read
this story and hope that you will support this fundraising
effort.
