Justice for Jaya

Donation protected
I’m Jaya’s mom,Wendy
Last Thursday night, she was attacked by an individual that we’ve been trying to get out of our lives for many months. She suffered many injuries and is of course traumatized.
Our local authorities have been amazing and they said we can try for assault 4.
Just wanted to put it out here and if you can help our ohana.
Anything donated would go towards paying for legal fees, medical bills and therapy.
Jaya is an avid surfer and just want to see her happy, healthy and back in the water again.
Thank you for your kindness and awesome emotional support ❣️

This boy,who did this to Jaya …they were dating for the past year. I have been asking her if he’s abusing her because I noticed stuff broken at our house and then Christmas I saw bruises on her arms. She always denied it (she was scared of his threats) I confronted this boy several times, but always denied anything ever happened of course.
On Thursday night,I was going to work at 10:30. He waited till I left for work. She heard him outside. She locked all the doors and hid in her room.He broke our glass jalousies and climbed through the window, attacked her, punched her face, her eye,her private parts, threw her down on the floor, ran with her phone outside. She wrestled to get it away from him just long enough to call her dad,who lives on the same street and was there within minutes. He threw her down on the driveway where she suffered being kicked, scratched, bruised, hair pulled with her neck being yanked back. She has an open wound on her arm.He threw her phone against the house and then in the neighbor’s field.Jaya’s dad was trying to find him,but he was hiding from him. He then flew off island to Oahu.I have 2 amazing women officers on the case, that are strong advocates for women (girls) He will be arrested as soon as he gets back on island.I’m looking to hire a great lawyer to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law (hopefully try him as an adult) so he cannot hurt anyone else.

Update 1/29/23
Temporary restraining order served and
we have a court hearing on February 6th and I’m going to ask the judge to issue a permanent protective order
Update 2/9/23
On February 6,we went to court to confirm that we wanted to keep the restraining order against the defendant. The judge asked the defendant how they wanted to plead. The first option would be deny everything that happened ..if this was what they wanted, then it would’ve gone to trial, and we would prove that it did happen, that we do have videos and pictures of all of her injuries for the past year plus voice recording saying that he was going to kill her, the second option would be to admit it ,guilty and accept the TRO. The third option would be no contest not admitting it or denying it and accept the TRO.They chose no contest which of course is the easy way out.
I doubled checked with the judge and also the social worker that the only way this is going to go to trial is if they deny it ever happened and then at that point, we could prove with evidence , I thought that was really unfair. I don’t know if it’s because they’re minors or what but my expectation was that we were going to agree that this temporary restraining order was in place and then at that point I thought we were going to go to trial after that, but that’s not the case which is really disappointing because the judge will never see all the damage that he did to Jaya .I also found out he was abusing our kitten. The kitten is also on the restraining order and also our property , so she made it very clear that he cannot contact her even a third-party way and if she’s at the beach he must leave if she’s at the store he must leave.
It’s definitely not exactly the way I wanted it to go down but judge did honor the restraining order until she’s 18 which is going to be in about two years.

I have been trying to get a hold of legal aid and I definitely feel like we must have more rights than this. I felt like they had more rights than we did and that we were just lucky that we got a restraining order and got an extension. It just seems unfair but I’ve talked to other people involving situations like this and there were hardly any consequences.
On a more positive note, Jaya started therapy today. She really connected with this person and I’m so happy she is engaging in this therapy.
Because of the certain criteria we wanted as parents and what Jaya wanted,we do have to go outside of our network,so it’s going to be out of pocket.I just wanted to tell you I’m very grateful for everybody that has sent us caring words and monetary or not,all of it is super important to us and I feel like Jaya is getting her confidence back. I see her standing up straighter, smiling more , she’s becoming her self again and she finally realizes how much she is loved, she is beautiful and she is worthy❤️
