Justice for Emerson: Help Us Fund Expert Witnesses

Broadcasting to the world that I need to raise $40,000 U.S. + court costs, is the scariest thing in the world for me.

My name is Lisa Langlois, and I am the mother of Emerson Langlois-Ulrich. I am reaching out to you for support in seeking justice for my son, Emerson.

On March 1st 2008, when Emerson was 7 years old, he was hit by an SUV whereupon, he was then subjected to 20 surgeries over 10 years. It was a journey of surgeries and constant runs of different types of opioids. This coupled with hours in isolation in hospital rooms, hours in hyperbaric chambers, wheelchairs, crutches, physical and psychotherapy. Essentially, Emerson lost his childhood. What he gained was chronic pain, PTSD and social discomfort due to his disfigured foot and the multitude of skin graft scars that riddle his body. Despite his father having Motion Picture Insurance and my having SAG insurance, it was still $67,000 U.S. out of pocket for medical expenses, (not to mention a 10 year gap in my career). And Emerson hasn’t even started the cosmetic surgery phase or upcoming surgeries.

Now at 23, after years of battling through the legal system, Emerson faces going to trial on March 22nd. It is crucial that we retain expert witnesses in this “David vs. Goliath” case.

Unfortunately, since our personal injury attorney is working on a contingency fee and all liable parties are underinsured, he is unwilling to front the $40,000 U.S. in expert witness fees + court costs. So last week, I tried to get $40,000 in financing from my bank but was turned down last Friday because I did not make enough income over the past two years to qualify. Sadly, in the “business” of financing, it’s of no matter that my earnings over the past few years had been compromised due to Covid, followed by the WGA & SAG strikes and the current 20-month commercial lockout by the Canadian Advertising agencies. Being a sole caregiver for my 94-year-old mother has also taken a toll on my earning abilities.

This is where I turn to you. I realized that rather than reach out to a business, I needed to reach out to my friends; whether they be lifelong, Facebook, Instagram, workplace friends or fans. The goal is to raise $40,000 U.S. by “last” Friday, so as to retain Expert Witnesses by Jan 15th. And then raise court costs.

Every donation, no matter the size; even sharing our campaign with your community of friends, is immensely appreciated and brings us one step closer to ensuring Emerson's story is heard and justice is served. As indicated, I am currently in extreme circumstances and as such, I’ve had to reach down and pull out my inner “Warrior Mom” and ask my community to stand with Emerson and me.
