My mother, Dorothy Spinella, was 69 years old — a woman full of warmth, laughter, and love. She was the kind of person who lit up every room she walked into, the one everyone leaned on, the heart of our family.

On the night of May 3, 2026, she was doing something completely ordinary — crossing the street at the intersection of Schoolcraft and Telegraph in Redford Township. She was in the crosswalk. She was doing everything right.

A car struck her and drove away.

The driver left my mother lying in the road and never looked back. She passed away from her injuries, and our family's world collapsed overnight.

We are still in shock. We are still processing the fact that she is gone — not from illness, not from old age, but because someone chose to drive away instead of stop. The police are actively searching for the driver, and we are praying for justice.

In the meantime, we are facing the very real weight of funeral expenses, burial costs, and the financial toll that comes with losing someone so suddenly. No one plans for this. We certainly didn't.
