My name is Galina Tatlenko. I was the mother of two sons Daniel(19) and Vadim (28). On August 11th the unimaginable happened: my youngest son, Daniel, suddenly died.
Correlated to New York City’s recent rise in crime, Daniel was held at gunpoint and murdered near to our family’s home in Coney Island. My faith in the criminal justice system, and my faith in this nation (a nation that was once so kind to me) is wavering. Daniel’s murderer is still on the loose, and we are receiving no financial support from NYC. Now, must devise a way to make ends meet.
I immigrated to this country in 2001, and shortly after my spouse passed in an automotive accident. However, I needed to be brave for my boys. Until recently, all three of us lived together in our small Brooklyn apartment and each of us worked hard to make ends meet, especially Daniel. Daniel was a smart and driven young man who had been accepted to Brooklyn College starting the fall 2020. He was going to major in programming, and always spoke about his dreams about buying our small family a bigger house.
Our family was already facing debt after the outbreak of COVID-19. In addition to our previous debts, we must now figure out a way to pay for Daniel’s funeral expesnes, legal fees, and our basic necessities. Although no amount of money can fill the void of my sons death, any donation would help ease the finical burden our family is facing right now.
