Justice for Daniel Felton: Support His Family

My name is Olivia Preston. My father, Daniel Webster Felton, was shot and killed in the driveway of a rental property that my parents owned in Little Rock, Arkansas. The murder was unprovoked. My father was finishing up some work, and was planning to drive back home to Madison, Mississippi as soon as he was finished. My mother left that morning to grab something that my dad needed at Lowe's and to get breakfast at Starbucks. Whenever she returned, she found my father's lifeless body in the driveway. Thanks to the lead detective on the case, an abundance of evidence was obtained, including ring doorbell footage. The man was identified and arrested within a matter of days.
My father Danny was an ever-present father, husband, and grandfather. He attended every award ceremony, graduation and recital, and coached baseball and basketball teams. He was an unwavering companion to my mother Becky, whom he loved as much on their 44th anniversary as he did on their first. He was a gentle and dutiful son to both his father and mother, up to their passing.
During the 40 years that my father owned property in the neighborhood in which he was killed, he was a positive presence. He was loved dearly by the neighbors on the street that knew him. We noticed many faces at his funeral that knew him because of the properties that he owned. My father was kind and helpful to his renters. He mentored children that came by while he was working in the yard. He gave them work and spending money while he encouraged them and taught them about how they could build better lives for themselves.
My father was kind and respectful to everyone that he met. If given the opportunity, he would have helped the 18-year-old man who ultimately took his life.
After my father's murder, the local news listed him as Daniel Felton of Madison, MS. His face was never shown. It was reported as if he was an outsider, and nothing more than the 48th homicide that year. At the end of 2022, the local news aired a special where they interviewed the families of murder victims from that year. However, we never got a call.
My father was at the peak of his career whenever he was killed. This loss was sudden, and has had a significant financial impact on my mother. My mom stayed home to raise my brother, sister, and I. My mom supported my father in every way that she could, so that he could be a provider for our family.
August of this year will mark 3 years of fighting for justice!! As a result of this ongoing battle, I have had to take off work for extended periods of time. Because of countless motions filed by the defense, the trial has been postponed more times than I can count. I work as a bridal hair and makeup artist and a barber. I have hardly been able to work as a freelance artist since my father was killed, and at this point, I have had to completely close up shop for the time being.
Taking off of work and traveling back and forth for court innumerable times, along with my two children, has been very expensive. This has impacted mine and my husband's financial stability significantly. My husband has also had to take off of work to go to court dates with me, and will soon once again have to take an entire week off work for the next "trial," of which may or may not happen. I have been told countless times that there would be no more delays, just to be met with more delays.
MY FATHER DESERVES JUSTICE! MY FAMILY DESERVES JUSTICE!! What happened to my father was hateful and senseless. My family and I NEED closure. This has been so much for my heart to take, and the financial burden of my inability to work has become far too stressful. This man didn't just murder my father. He stole my father's retirement years and ruined financial plans for he and my mother, of which he had carefully planned out. He stole precious time from me, precious time with my sweet baby girl who was only 8 months old whenever my father was killed, and precious time with my amazing son, who was about to turn 9 years old whenever my father was killed. This is time that I can never get back. I have struggled with PTSD, and the stress of managing my own mental health (lots of therapy, which is also costly), work, and driving hours out of state to these court dates over and over, just to be met with more disappointment.. has honestly become far more than I can bear.
I created this GoFundMe in hopes that others will also want to see my family get justice and support us in this fight. I have been at almost every single court hearing since my father's murder. Most of the hearings, my family and I have had to wait hours, just for a 5-minute hearing. I WANT to be there for every hearing, to be present for my father.
My family deserves to be able to heal. My father worked 60+ hours a week his entire adult life to provide for his family. I know that he would be so distraught about how this has affected all of us financially. The constant stress of all of this has made healing very difficult. This has gone on for far too long. I have no choice but to take a stand. My dad deserves justice, and my dad's story deserves to be told! Please share and support us in this fight!
Romans 12:19 ESV
Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
