Hi, my name is Andrew Sceviour, and I’m asking for your help to raise funds so I can afford legal representation and seek justice for myself and my dog, Chopper, after a traumatic and unjust incident that changed our lives forever.
What Happened
One morning, while out walking my dog Chopper, I was suddenly chased by a group of strangers. Fearing for my life, I called 911 in tears and begged for help. Moments later, my phone died. I eventually saw a police cruiser and ran toward it for protection—but instead of helping me, the officers ordered me to turn around and put my hands behind my back.
As I complied, one of the officers put their hands on me. Chopper, scared and trying to protect me, bit that officer on his hand. He had never bitten anyone before. He was restrained on a leash, doing what dogs do—protecting their person.
What happened next is something I still relive in nightmares.
The police took Chopper from me, handcuffed me and shot Chopper while he was tied to a tree.
He wasn’t attacking. He was calm. He was defenseless. One officer even said, “Shoot it in the head.”
Chopper was critically injured but miraculously survived after emergency surgery. I was then wrongfully charged, accused of being drunk (though I was not breathalyzed), and held in a hospital on psychiatric lock for over 12 hours against my will simply because I said, “I don’t know what I’ll do if my dog dies.”
⚖️ Why I’m Raising Funds
I’ve since learned the police reports are inconsistent and filled with false statements—some saying Chopper was tied up, others claiming he broke free and charged. That’s a lie. I saw it. So did a witness.
Despite all this, I’ve been unable to find a civil lawyer to take my case unless I pay upfront or can offer a retainer I simply can’t afford. I’m living with PTSD, anxiety, and constant fear—and the officers involved still haven’t been held accountable.
I’m seeking help to hire a civil rights lawyer who can:
File a lawsuit against the Edmonton Police Service
Investigate the unlawful use of force and false reports
Help me fight for justice, not just for me—but for Chopper
How the Funds Will Be Used
Your donation will go directly toward:
Legal consultation and retainer fees
Filing a formal civil lawsuit
Covering any necessary legal documentation or court costs
Retaining expert witnesses if needed (veterinary, medical, etc.)
I’m not asking for luxury. I’m asking for fairness. For a chance to be heard. For the truth to come out.
Why This Matters
Chopper is more than a pet—he’s my family. He’s been by my side since 2019, through every hard day and lonely night. Seeing him shot while trying to protect me broke something inside of me. But I won’t stop fighting—not for me, and not for him.
Please consider donating or sharing this page. Every dollar, every repost, and every kind message helps me take one more step toward justice.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
