Dear community and supporters,

I'm reaching out to you today in efforts to bring justice to our dear friend, Candace Fleming.

Candace, is a Deaf young lady age 26 years old who attended the Detroit Day School for the Deaf and graduated from Michigan School for the Deaf. Candace is identified by individuals who knew her as a loving and devoted mother of two.

Currently, Candace needs the community help, she's incarcerated in Macomb County for a crime she hasn't committed.

Advocates and community members believe there have been serious misunderstandings in this case and that all relevant facts may not yet have been fully and fairly presented. In particularly, understanding that due process and equal access to justice hasn’t been upheld.

These concerns raise broader questions about how Deaf individuals are treated within the legal system and whether disability-related barriers may be influencing the outcome of this case.

During the initial investigation, authorities prioritized the testimony of an individual (who is partially hearing) over Candace’s testimony simply because she is fully Deaf.

Despite another individual admitting to the allegations, Candace has remained incarcerated without bond.

Studies show that Deaf women and women with disabilities are significantly more likely to have their testimony disregarded compared to those without disabilities.

She has no criminal record, no financial support, and no immediate family.

Candace needs money for making calls to advocates, commissary necessities, and for legal representation, such as; someone who has worked with disabled individuals or has the patience to work with Deaf clients.
