Justice for Baka

My friend and her husband (Megan and Stephen Motherwell) lost their precious puppy Baka on 2/14/2019. 

They entrusted him to the care of a neighbor who happened to work for a dog- sitting company. They received frantic texts and videos on 2/13/2019 of Baka breathing funny and acting strange. Megan, Baka’s mom, rushed home after hearing the news and took him into the vet. 

They later learned Baka had fluid in his lungs, either due to being choked/ harmed, choking on something, being pulled too harshly by his collar, etc. They were given the 10% likelihood that he would pull through, which would increase to 50% if they tried the insanely costly use of mechanical ventilation (13k). In an attempt to save their baby, they agreed, but a couple hours later lost their sweet boy. His lungs collapsed and he passed away. 

What they came to realize is their neighbor had left Baka alone for at least 2 hours. Within that time period, it is likely he ate something he wasn’t supposed to and began choking or was choked / yanked on by his collar. Their neighbor was responsible for watching Baka the entire time and was given clear instructions when hired due to the fact Baka has separation anxiety and cannot be alone. As a result, his lungs filled with fluid and he fought for a while, but was unable to pull through in the end. 

These amazing people loved their baby so much and spent extraordinary amounts of money, stayed home from work to raise him, and truly cherished every minute they had with him. It’s true that money will not being their Baka back, but he deserves justice and Megan and Stephen need to feel supported and secure during this hard time.
