I just want to say hello and thank you for clicking on my page.
My baby sister Riley Reitsma just turned 1 on November 15, 2025.
On Monday, December 1st, my stepmom and dad took little Riley to get her planned heart surgery. Her surgery took place at Riley’s Children Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Everyone was expecting her to come home in about 4 days. She was expected to do well. She had a hole in her heart and needed her pulmonary valve fixed. Right after her initial surgery, she was doing great for a while. Then Tuesday morning at 3 am, Riley’s mom Melody got a very sad and unfortunate call. Riley was no longer doing great. She had stopped breathing and was put on a vent. She was also bleeding from everywhere, such as her eyes, mouth, etc. They were also told she was bleeding internally around her heart, so they had to go in for surgery number two.
When Riley’s parents made it to the hospital later that day, they were told she wasn’t going to make it but couldn’t get any straight answers. While Melody and Tomme knew she was gone when they saw her, they decided to say their goodbyes and kissed her sweet little hands that were so cold to the touch. Melody and Tomme Reitsma (the parents) went to talk to other medical professionals and were told to get an autopsy because what happened to poor little Riley didn’t make sense. At first, there were no thoughts of medical malpractice. Later the next day, on Wednesday, December 3rd, Tomme’s ex-wife went to check on little miss Riley for Tomme and Melody because it was so hard for them to see her in her state. Riley was swollen up like a balloon and covered in bruises and was purple. She had blood coming out of everywhere. She didn’t look like our beautiful little girl. While my mom was there, she kept asking what happened and why she wasn’t going to be able to ever go home again. Jennifer got no answers! While she was visiting, the nurses were trying their hardest to get them out of the room and away from her like they were covering something up. From then on, we all have been very skeptical of all the actions that took place. We are trying to get the funds to go somewhere other than Riley’s Children Hospital to get the autopsy done. We now have no trust in them and just want the answers, even if it means her little body just couldn’t handle the harsh surgeries she was put through. Although in our hearts, we feel like something seems wrong.
Later on December 3rd, they got the news that the doctors were gonna pull the plugs and that she was gone shortly after.
