Dear friends,
We are coming up on the two-year anniversary of the death of Lucy Chaves’ sister. On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 2017—at just 27 years old—vibrant Chichy Amina was murdered in her apartment in Kenya.
After her death, it became immediately clear that the authorities were not interested in bringing forth justice . Lucy’s family had to hire a lawyer and private investigator. Many people around the world banded together in prayer, and two years later, they are starting to see a ray of truth be revealed about what happened to this bright, faithful, young woman.
Despite concerted efforts to block the case, the legal process has continued and in two significant developments the local head of police was removed from his post and a magistrate ordered a formal inquest to ascertain the facts surrounding the murder.
On October 1, the first inquest hearing was held before a court in Nakuru. One of the witnesses confirmed Lucy’s family’s suspicion that the murder was related to Chichy’s job at a bank. The witness, a bank employee, trembled on the stand, fumbled over his words and admitted that he destroyed his phone after communicating with Chichy that day. This was just a preliminary hearing and many more are expected to follow.
The next court mention is set for Nov. 15. In the meantime, the family needs to continue payments to the lawyer and private investigator so they can proceed with further work on the case.
Lucy’s family is humbly hoping to raise $10,000 to cover the legal and investigative fees so their dear daughter and sister can receive justice, the truth can be brought into the light, and continued reforms in the criminal justice system can protect others from violent crime.
In general, Lucy’s family would be grateful for your prayers, whether it’s on your knees or waiting at a stoplight. God is great. He knows what happened. One day everything that happens in the darkness will be proclaimed in the light (Luke 12:13)!
P.S. Any funds raised beyond the required legal expenses will go into a scholarship fund in Chichy’s honor.
